Canadian-born actress Cobie Smulders made the cover of Venus magazine. You might recognize Smulders from her role on CBS-TV's "How I Met Your Mother."
Smulders' character Robin on HIMYM extolls her Canadianness, including a recent episode where Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) visits her in Canada.
The article gives her Canadian background a nice nod, perhaps subconsciously illustrating her Canadian shyness at several points in her life. Yet the Vancouver-born-and-raised Smulders also brings herself into the tomboy type character, right down to the Vancouver Canucks jersey she wears.
Robin, described by Smulders, as “cool, confident, more of a tomboy” is a tough, wise-crackin’ broadcast reporter who would rather reach for a tasty cheeseburger than her boyfriend’s hand. As Smulders inhabited the role, Robin also became more Cobie-like, even becoming Canadian, which manifested in a number of “exotic” quirks, like being afraid of the dark and mispronunciations of words like “sorry” and “about” with hilarious effect.
Turns out that Smulders was on the cover of Venus in Fall 2009, but the bookstore where I saw this still has this issue. Still, it's pretty cool.
