Here are a few post-Millenium choices; a few are more pop-oriented (but not urban pop):
Hooded Fang .. Laughing ('10)
Metric .. Gimme Sympathy ('09)
Powter, Daniel .. Bad Day ('05)
Mitchell, Kim+ .. Aint Life Amazing ('07)
Hot Hot Heat .. Middle of Nowhere ('05)
Nickelback .. If Today was Your Last Day ('08)
Our Lady Peace .. Somewhere out There ('02)
k-os .. Sunday Morning ('06)
Roberts, Sam .. Where have all the Good People Gone? ('03)
Arden, Jann - Where no one Knows Me ('05)

Less 'cheerful' songs:
Tragically Hip, the .. In View ('06)
Stabilo .. Everybody ('06)
Finger Eleven .. One Thing ('03)
Goudie, Rex .. Run ('05)
Ten Second Epic .. Welcome to Wherever you Are ('08)

+ Could've filled out his own top 10 upbeat rock list from the 70s/80s.
(IMO) many of these songs carry a more measured 'glass half-full' sense of optimism than from classic rock's era.

Thanks CQ. I definitely want to do more musical genres than just classic rock. I started with that because it's what I know more of from Canada. I promise more musical tributes to Canada in the future.
