Product reviews aren't something we feature too much here at Balance of Food. But I couldn't resist trying two products designing to be slightly healthier versions of accepted "junk food" items.
The newer of the two is Sprite Green. The label tells us that the soft drink is "naturally sweetened, contains real juice" with "50% fewer calories than regular sodas."
Let's start with the good points: no high-fructose corn syrup. Even if it only contains 5% lemon juice, "lemon juice from concentrate" is listed as the second ingredient. The taste tastes like Sprite used to do with one notable exception. The 8.5 fl. oz. size is extremely ideal.
The cons: That taste exception stems from rebiana (stevia extract). There is an aftertaste to my palate.
I've never been a huge fan of Sprite. But it is a nice refreshing alternative to regular soda if you don't mind the stevia aftertaste. And if you honestly don't notice it, Sprite Green could be for you.
The other food has been around for a new months, so I'm late to the bandwagon: Kentucky Fried Chicken's grilled chicken.
When you are stuck with few choices on the go, is KFC's grilled version worth the switch. I ordered a breast with the two sides and a biscuit.
I was hoping there was a hint of the 11 herbs and spices into the skin of the grilled chicken. There was something there, but it wasn't remnant of Colonel Harlan Sanders. The good news is that the chicken was juicy and tasty. Given that the skin is usually the Achilles heel when it comes to chicken, you won't miss it. The skin does taste good, but it has nowhere near the effect of the classic skin of the fried chicken version.
After eating the grilled version, I was tempted to shell out more money for the classic fried version, but if you can resist that temptation, the grilled chicken was a nice alternative.
