Welcome to the newest feature at BalanceofFood.com: Temptation of the Week. This week's temptation is a cookie with a lot of calories that just got bigger.
If you associate the phrase "triple double" with basketball or maybe a figure skating move, you are in the majority. The folks at Oreo cookies want you to associate triple double with the newest Oreo cookie. There are three chocolate cookies with a vanilla filling and a chocolate filling.
There was the Double Stuf Oreos of an earlier time, but "triple" sounds more impressive than "double."
To me, a larger Oreo is just more high-fructose corn syrup. When Kraft switched a number of foods, including Miracle Whip, from high-fructose corn syrup to sugar, the answer about Oreo was clear: they weren't changing the Oreos.
Of course, there is the lack of realization that Kraft did change Oreos to high-fructose corn syrup since Oreos are older than HFCS. Imagine, a classic Oreo made with real sugar, and the potential marketing bonanza. Yet Kraft disagrees.
Even if I'm not a fan, I recognize that chocolate filling is considered awesome, and more square footage in an Oreo is also considered awesome.
The better question is whether you judge your cooking eating by number of cookies or square footage of said cookie. If you eat larger cookies, would you eat fewer cookies of that size? Or would you eat the same number of cookies? Or would you split a triple double Oreo with a friend, taking the chocolate filling and leaving the vanilla filling for your friend.
