Jillian Michaels is going back to "The Biggest Loser." Should we also go back to the show?
Not that we would go back because of Michaels. Sure we haven't missed the screaming and the hypocrisy about in-show infomercials. But we might go back for the same reason she is going back.
"The Biggest Loser" is ready to help three teenagers lose weight. While each of the three teams will have a teenager as a member of the group, the teens themselves won't participate in the elimination element. The network notes that the teenagers will train predominately at home and will not weigh in on camera.
"The Biggest Loser" without humilation? Sounds more like CBC's "Village on a Diet."
The three teenagers are Lindsay Bravo (13), Noah 'Biingo' Gray (13), and Sanjana 'Sunny' Chandrasekar (16).
Michaels asks us to "reserve judgment" on the newest season of "The Biggest Loser." Based on the way they treat adults, both on the show and the home viewing audience, doubts are expected.
Children and teenagers are a soft spot for us here at BalanceofFood.com. Helping children figure out their own balance is a life skill that one should learn the sooner the better.
And teenagers who spend a lot of time in front of screens would benefit from seeing people their age having similar struggles.
In monitoring the new season of "The Biggest Loser," we reserve the right to only see how the show treats the teenagers. Adults make their own decisions to be humiliated on the show, and we haven't seen any reason to pay much attention to what they are doing on the ranch.
We will start monitoring with the first episode Sunday night on NBC before the show settles into its regular slot. The better the teenagers get treated, the more reports we will have.
No screaming, no infomercials, no unnecessary drama: If NBC and "The Biggest Loser" are smart, they will avoid these problems for the teenagers. If they are smarter, they wouldn't do this for the adults, too.
"The Biggest Loser" airs Sunday, January 6 at 9 pm Eastern time before settling in its regular Monday night airings at 8 pm Eastern time on NBC in the United States and City TV in Canada.
