This is the donut I did not eat today.
I took a picture of a donut, the last one in the box from the most recognizable donut brand in the United States (rhymes with punkin). Strawberry frosted is not my favorite, but I was tempted. I took a picture of the donut. I went to the bathroom, thinking about the donut.
A few minutes later, I returned to the donut. The donut was gone. The person who grabbed the last donut was gone.
All I had was the picture of a strawberry frosted donut.
A picture says 1,000 calories. Well, maybe not a thousand, but a few hundred calories.
Vision and smell of a donut do not replace the taste of a donut. The desire for flavor. Sinking your teeth into a greasy baked good.
An hour later, I still had a picture of a strawberry frosted donut. I didn't have the taste, the feeling of the dough into my mouth. I didn't have a few hundred extra calories that I did not need.
Even if you are swayed by the next donut or cake or whatever truly tempts you, know you did survive getting past that donut.
I have a souvenir of that moment. A picture of a lonely strawberry frosted donut. And the knowledge that I did not eat that donut.
