In this very occasional segment of famous Americans marrying, engaged, dating Canadians, I usually have heard of the American celebrities.
Carrie Underwood (left) isn't one of those people. Underwood became famous on "American Idol," which I don't watch. She is a country singer, which I don't normally listen to, at least not modern country.
Underwood has also been voted "World's Sexiest Vegetarian" by PETA twice; then again, I'm not a vegetarian.
But she is famous enough to qualify alongside Scarlett Johansson, Vince Vaughn, and Hilary Duff to be in this realm of being with Canadians.
The newly betrothed is Ottawa Senators center Mike Fisher. He also serves as an alternate captain for the NHL's team in the Canadian capital.
Fisher has been with the Ottawa Senators since 1999.
The relationship has been going on, according to published reports, since 2008 and they were engaged in December 2009.
Unlike some of the other combinations of Americans and Canadians, country music and ice hockey still seems funny. True, there is a NHL team in Nashville, country music's capital, but like most teams in the South, the team doesn't draw well (yet they all stay in the league).
Underwood is from Oklahoma; Fisher originally from Peterborough, Ontario and works in Ottawa. The couple got married in Georgia, but one of them will have to commute a long way.
