"Red cliffs, rolling hills, seaside villages, breathtaking views, fabulous food, pristine beaches can only mean one thing. It's Live with Regis and Kelly from Prince Edward Island, Canada."
"Live with Regis and Kelly" made its Prince Edward Island debut this morning. Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa did their daily show from the Confederation Landing Park in Charlottetown, PEI with the water behind the hosts.
Philbin and Ripa made their entrance with members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The conditions with cloudy and windy, so much so that just as the camera showed Regis and Kelly, her skirt blew up at the most inopportune time for her.
The rain held off for the entire episode, which was wonderful news. The graphic, complete with Canadian maple leaf, said the temperature was 69º F 21º C. They mentioned how green the island was, so clearly there is a lot of rain.
Food was the overall theme of Monday's crosstalk segment, particularly seafood. Kelly talked about one dinner where they had a lobster and mussels dinner with homemade biscuits and strawberry shortcake, followed by a trip to Cows.
Cows is the world famous ice cream based in PEI. I had Cows in Halifax last summer and can personally vouch for its creaminess (it's the extra butterfat).
The seafood was on display, as Regis played up the fact that he isn't crazy about seafood that isn't fried.
Kelly pointed out that lobster is so prevalent that Subway and McDonald's each have lobster sandwiches. I wanted to try the McLobster in Halifax last summer, but they were not carrying the sandwich.

Each day, the show plans to have a local chef. On Monday's show, Gordon Bailey from Lot 30 was the local chef du jour. Bailey showed off maple oyster ice cream w/poached oysters, street hot dogs made with mussels, ham and clam sandwiches, and scallop tartar.
Regis showed off the positive Canadian press that their visit has made. This coverage included reactions from a concert Regis did at a casino in Moncton, New Brunswick, also part of the Maritimes. They also played a segment from CTV where Ben Mulroney (yes, son of the former prime minister) interviewed four women waiting overnight to be in the front row.

The green rolling hills also became a theme as Regis and Kelly talked about how beautiful the island is. Kelly said about being PEI felt like "we're in the middle of a painting." Kelly rode a horse for the first time with guest Carson Kressley. They had to tease the segment because they ran out of time; they plan to air the full segment Wednesday.
Kressley, during the interview, summed up Prince Edward Island as "if Wisconsin were an island."
The introduction featured at the top was what PEI hopes for this week, lots of warm, kind publicity. Day 1 got us off to a good start, but we want so much more. Hope the next three episodes gives us more of the wonder of the PEI province.
