Laura Calder is the newest sensation, an expert in French cooking. And Calder is Canadian.
Okay, so Calder is slightly better looking than Julia Child, but her looks aren't the true reason why she is a rising star in food television.
Her story is sufficiently captivating. Similar to the "Eat Pray Love" phenomenon, Calder left her life and went to France. There she picked up learning French cuisine.
"French Food at Home" has been airing on Food Network Canada for some time, but in the U.S., the show airs on the Cooking Channel.
Calder was born in New Brunswick and taped the episodes in Halifax. She has lived in Toronto and Vancouver.
Calder's style is very soothing and she deviates enough from snooty tradition to be entertaining and relevant.
While it does seem that there are so many food programs — enough for two cable channels in the United States — we still don't have a Canadian food show. It would be really nice to see a show devoted to Canadian food. The ex-pat could be a French woman — reverse mirroring the Laura Calder story. Or perhaps an American man who happens to also write about food?
Laura is one of the most gorgeous women I've ever seen, AND she cooks! I'm a chef myself, so I can really appreciate both her beauty and skill. The best of both worlds!
