United States newspapers run travel pieces about Canada all the time. And if the article covers places I've been, reading the article makes me want to jump on a plane.
And given my love for food, this Chicago Tribune article on 10 great meals in Toronto made me want to crawl back to Canada's largest city.
I have personally enjoyed the last two on Monica Eng's list. (Full disclosure: I know Monica.) And certainly have walked by and around each of the other places on her list. Her list includes places that are easily accessible from the downtown corridor, easily walkable (for me, at least).
Her tastes may not be yours or mine, but remember that Eng covers food for the Chicago Tribune, so she stretches the map. And ask yourself if you've ever eaten in a Portuguese restaurant.
You could travel to somewhere in Europe to get a large culinary variety, but Canada's three largest cities offer a boutique of tastes. And Toronto is a true melting pot, especially when it comes to food.
