Trying to sum up Jack Layton after his death last week proved to be more difficult. Newspapers have obituaries ready for major celebrities so certain details aren't left out.
And even this column I wrote for DemocracySoup doesn't paint a full picture of the departed NDP leader and leader of the opposition party in Canada's parliament. But it does give an idea why Americans could learn a lot from him in terms of how he stood up for what he believed, and fought for those who needed a fighter.
Closer to when Parliament starts, we may take a look at Nycole Trumel and the uphill battle she will have as the interim opposition leader and trying to fulfill Layton's legacy.
