For all but the first album, Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart have been Rush — three guys playing, writing, and singing. Progressive rock, a synthesizer phase — solid, steady rock and roll for almost 40 years. Countless bands have been inspired by what Rush has brought to the rock and roll table.
Now, Rush gets its well-deserved turn into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Canadian band highlights the 2013 inductees list.
Subdivisions, Limelight, 2112 Overture/The Temples of Syrinx, New World Man, Working Man, Red Barchetta, Tom Sawyer, Spirit of Radio, Roll the Bones, Fly By Night, Freewill, Closer to the Heart, The Trees, The Big Money, Time Stand Still.
Rush was formed in Toronto. Geddy Lee did get some fame when he helped out with Bob and Doug McKenzie's "Take Off" comedy record in the early 1980s. Otherwise, the three Rush members lived reasonable normal lives. No crazy hotel stories. No wild girlfriend stories. No drama and infighting among the band members. Simple, straight ahead rock and roll.
This should have happened long before now, but now better than never.
Can't wait to watch them perform at the induction ceremony. Unlike a lot of bands that make it to the Hall of Fame, but can barely play, Rush is still rocking.

John Rutsey, the band's original drummer, died from complications from diabetes in 2008. Jeff Jones was the original bassist and singer, but his stint was no more than a summer in 1968. They might get mentioned when the band gets inducted.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has a few Canadian artists. Neil Young went in as a solo artist (1995) and with the band Buffalo Springfield (1997). Joni Mitchell (1997) and Leonard Cohen (2008) are also in the hall.
Randy Bachman, for his work in the Guess Who (with Burton Cummings) and Bachman Turner Overdrive, would be a logical pick. Gordon Lightfoot has an outside shot. Canadian artists have flown under the radar, and haven't had the recognition they deserved.

Heart also made the 2013 inductees list. While Heart is known as a Seattle band, the band did spend some of its formative time in Vancouver. Congratulations to Ann and Nancy Wilson and Heart on a well-deserved induction.

It's about time Rush got inducted. And good for Heart, as well.

I heartily agree. Glad to see some more Canadian love in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
