Apple iPhone 5? Samsung Galaxy III? Blackberry 10.
The good news for Research in Motion (RIM) is that the Blackberry 10, which finally launches today, doesn’t have to be at the level of either of those phones.
The bad news for RIM is that the wait for Blackberry 10 has been too long in a category where “what have you done for me lately” is the most common phrase.
Should the new Blackberry 10 have the traditional Blackberry keyboard? A touchscreen keyboard? Both?
Like it or not, the pressure is on this new phone to be everything Blackberry is, but different.
The public will decide whether the Blackberry 10 will be successful or has a shot to keep RIM in the smartphone game.
Blackberry has a niche audience of committed business users. But even some of them switched over, those who couldn’t wait for the new RIM phone. Other business users also want fun smartphone features with their business traits.
The best news for RIM and Blackberry is that consumers will have an opportunity to test the newest product starting today. Nothing is better than having a phone in your hand to see whether it fits in the lifestyle of consumers.
