Canada did not play a role in the series finale of How I Met Your Mother, but the U.S. sitcom celebrated Canada unlike any U.S. show with the possible exception of South Park.
The easiest way for the writers to show their love for Canada was to incorporate real-life Cobie Smulders aka Robin Scherbatsky aka Robin Sparkles aka Robin Daggers. Smulders is from Vancouver and Robin is a huge Canucks fan. Barney, who isn't a fan of Canada, ends up in Tim Hortons twice in the show.
Alan Thicke appeared in a few episodes. Thicke starred with Robin Sparkles in Space Teens traveling in a curling stone shape spaceship solving mysteries with math and beavers.
Robin is torn between two countries in an episode. Barney goes to Canada to save her and they end up in a Tim Hortons.
The Robin Daggers episode took us to the 1996 Grey Cup in Hamilton, gave us a new Tim Hortons donut, and showed us her Paul Shaffer obsession.
We will miss the gang at MacLaren's Pub. Thanks for 9 wonderful seasons and a special merci and thanks for having fun with Canada.
