Even Canada doesn't have Canadian restaurants. Restaurants serve Canadian food, but they aren't "Canadian restaurants."
Finding Canadian food in the United States is much more difficult. We've seen poutine creep in here and there, and Chicago should be fortunate to have a poutinerie.
Here are two more Canadian food entries on the U.S. landscape.

Canadian Sweets and Treats has been around since 2010 in Washington, DC. As much as I love poutine, finding butter tarts is a tougher task. You can also get Canadian treats such as Nanaimo bars, maple walnut fudge, tarte au sucre (sugar), and butter tarts.
The bakery's slogan is "The Only Canadian Bakery in the U.S. Eh..?" Great slogan, but a little sad. U.S. residents outside the Beltway deserve some Canadian baked goods love.
Windsor is a lot closer than Washington, DC, but next time I'm in the U.S. capital, I will stock up on calories, er, Canadian treats.
Canadian Sweets and Treats is located in Northwest Washington at 4201 Cathedral Avenue NW – West Building B1. The bakery's Web site says "many of our products can be shipped quickly and safely to the lower 49 states. But there are exceptions, so please check with us first!"

The Chelsea neighborhood in New York City is getting a Big Smoke Burger. Big Smoke Burger can be found throughout Toronto, and three Southern Ontario locations (Mississauga, Cambridge, and Niagara-on-the-Lake). Denver is the only U.S. location for the chain but Chicago and Michigan are coming soon. The chain can also be found in the Middle East.
Big Smoke Burger also serves poutine, lamb burgers, and smoked Canadian cheddar. Lamb burgers are much easier to find in Canada than the U.S.

As a disclaimer, I haven't tried either of these places. Hopefully, these places will provide a taste of Chicago below the 49th parallel.
If you know of other outlets in the States with Canadian food of any type, please let us know in the comments section below. If you live close enough to Canada, you might as well head up north for these treats. When people say "Canada is just like the United States," you can reply "butter tarts, Nanaimo bars, and poutine." If they don't know what you mean, then the answer is "no."
