The experiment that every NHL fan is looking forward to seeing is City TV's Hometown Hockey to run Sunday nights during the season.
Ron MacLean will be in a different city each Sunday night, starting this weekend with London, Ontario.
All 10 provinces are represented at least once. Ontario leads the way with 8 visits. The province gets 5 straight visits in December and early January as well as the opening weekend (London) and the final weekend (Kanata).
Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia each have 3 appearances, while Quebec and Saskatchewan have 2 appearances.
All of the Maritimes provinces appear once. Their times come between January 11 and February 15 (with a stopoff in Dollard-Des-Ormeaux, QC).
All but one of the games will air on City TV; Rogers Sportsnet will carry the February 8 contest.
The November 30 (Grey Cup) and February 1 (Super Bowl) games will be matinees. The rest of the games will be at night.
In the United States, the NHL Network will carry 6 Hometown Hockey contests, starting Sunday with the Maple Leafs at Madison Square Garden. The NHL Network will also carry the 30-minute pregame show, even when the game won't be on the channel.
Unfortunately pour moi, 3 of the 6 telecasts involve Chicago, so I'll be blacked out. Here are the 6 telecasts (all times 7 pm Eastern unless otherwise noted).
October 12 Toronto @ NY Rangers
October 26 Ottawa @ Chicago
November 23 Montréal @ NY Rangers
December 7 Vancouver @ Ottawa
December 14 Calgary @ Chicago (8 pm)
December 21 Toronto @ Chicago
Next week's game — Calgary at Winnipeg — will be available to U.S. viewers via the NHL Center Ice free preview.
NBCSN will carry the February 8 game, but will likely have its own crew (Gord Miller??).
For those in the States, all games except for February 8 are available with an OTA City TV signal. Good luck in getting one. Otherwise, the telecasts are available on NHL Center Ice and NHL GameCenter Live (subject to availability and blackouts).
