We had no shortage of Canadian feeds from the first 2015 NHL Center Ice free preview. Here are some of the highlights from the commercials available from those feeds:
Wiser's whisky has a fund to help out guys who don't want to compromise. As an example, a guy got $87 for a knee brace to get him out of ballroom dancing lessons. This does play into the sexist element that the beer commercials joyfully ignored, but the theme reinforces the quality of the whisky. The spots are a bit mean but also funny.
Tim Hortons may be owned by Burger King, but Canadians can still roll up the rim to win prizes. The Tim Hortons spot was one of many that stood out in the Valentine's Day week NHL Center Ice free preview.
You might think Subway is pretty similar in both the United States and Canada, but "Americans" aren't getting Montréal smoked meat as an option. That's how Canadians mange frais.
Mark's let us know that they don't call it "the great indoors." At least in ads, Canadians do not whine about winter.
Molson is building an ice rink truly in the middle of nowhere. The spot that ran in the break was an adult man who wanted to give back to his father for helping him with his hockey career. Watching the two men play on this hockey rink on top of a mountain was a really cool ad. Not only is the beer better in Canada, but also the commercials.
Travelwise, we got Newfoundland spots during the CBC telecast. A Calgary Flames game featured 2 different ads for TravelManitoba.com. One featured the polar bears in Churchill; the other was set in the wilderness.
The Flames (and Oilers) games get into Saskatchewan so Manitoba isn't too far away. Until the Jets came back into the NHL, the Alberta teams were also broadcast in Manitoba.
We even saw a TravelManitoba.com ad involving the Canadian Museum of Human Rights on the TSN3 Jets feed.
Dave Hopkinson, CCO at Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, uses BlackBerry Classic. The phone is a tool for him to be successful. Unfortunately for Blackberry, virtually every team involved in MLSE is doing rather poorly right now.
We saw a couple of airings of the classic Oka cheese commercial on Rogers Sportsnet Ontario.
We saw a number of Canadian Forces spots. Given the action the troops are seeing in Iraq, those ads aren't likely to increase enlistments.
Let's end with an odd local Winnipeg ad for Pizza Hotline. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers offensive lineman Andre Douglas is a regular spokesperson for the pizza establishment. In this ad, Douglas is walking into the hockey rink in his Blue Bombers uniform. He falls when he hits the ice since he can't skate. Not much to do with pizza, but that likely isn't the point.
