CanadianCrossing.com film coverage
Felix and Meira is the story of the friendship of a French-Canadian man and a Hassidic Jewish woman in Montréal. The film is also about being in a world where you don't feel like you belong.
Meira wrestles with the frustrations of her world versus the temptations of this other world. But she is not the only one feeling trapped in her circumstance.
Though the film also branches out to Brooklyn and Venice, Montréal, especially its Jewish community, is well on display. The mix of languages, very common in Montréal, is beautiful to watch.
You get Yiddish, German, French, English, Spanish, and Italian — all in one film.
Even after watching it a second time, Felix and Meira is a beautiful, gentle, well-told film.
Felix and Meira won Best Canadian Film at TIFF in 2014.
If this film does not get to your city, the fact that the distribution is pretty wide speaks to eventually being available in video stores in larger cities and streaming. Canadians don't have as many excuses; they should more easily be able to find this film.
