Room got 4 Oscar nominations, though none of them for Jacob Tremblay. The film is up for Best Picture, Best Actress (Brie Larson), Best Director (Lenny Abrahamson), and Best Adapted Screenplay (Emma Donoghue).
Rachel McAdams is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Spotlight.
Tremblay did receive a Screen Actors Guild nomination but not a Golden Globe nod. Difficult to imagine Room getting 4 nominations but none for Tremblay.
The Best Picture nomination is even more poignant for Room since the Academy only went with 8 nominations in the category this year.
At the start, Larson is considered the favorite for Best Actress in part because of the Golden Globes win Sunday night, but also the buzz is very loud over her performance. The film was nominated for 3 Golden Globes. The film lost out to The Revenant and screenwriter Emma Donoghue lost out to Aaron Sorkin (Steve Jobs) for Best Screenplay.
The momentum for Room started when the film won the People's Choice Award at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. We are very excited to see where the journey ends.

Unlike a lot of years with the Oscars, the Canadian influence extends far and wide. The Revenant features Canadians in its cast (more on that later) and was filmed in Alberta and British Columbia, among other locations. Brooklyn got 3 Oscars nods and is a Canadian co-production. Quebec's own Denis Villeneuve also got 3 nods for Sicario.
Adam Benzine for Claude Lanzmann: Spectres of the Shoah and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy for A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness were nominated for documentary short films. The Weeknd got an Oscar nomination for original song nomination for Earned It from Fifty Shades of Grey.

Jacob Tremblay and Isaiah Tootoosis have an amazing amount in common in terms of the 2016 Oscars. Tremblay, 9, and Tootoosis, 8, played children whose screen parents are Oscar nominees in Oscar nominated films. Tootoosis played Leonardo DiCaprio's son in The Revenant.
Both plays significant parts in their films, both are Canadian. Tootoosis is from the Poundmaker Cree Nation about 230 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Both actors were also kept away from the more mature content of each film.
Though neither young actor is nominated, they should be there for the Oscars and we hope they enjoy the experience.
Given that Larson and DiCaprio are the early favorites in their acting categories, perhaps the young actors will get a shout-out in acceptance speeches.
