The 2016-2017 NHL schedule will not start out in Toronto and the Montréal Canadiens can watch opening night like the rest of us.
Rogers Sportsnet opens Wednesday night with a doubleheader as the Maple Leafs will be in Ottawa for the Battle of Ontario. Rogers Place opens in Edmonton in the nightcap as the provincial rivals from Calgary pay a visit to downtown Edmonton.
Rogers Sportsnet 360 starts off with the Montréal Canadiens in Buffalo Thursday night.
All the opening games through November 1 will be available in a NHL Center Ice free preview unless the game airs on national TV in the United States. Check your cable or satellite listings.
All the Canadian teams except for Vancouver open in the first couple of days in the season.

In a season where every single Canadian team missed the playoffs, previews offer more hope than reality. And we don't have much hope. The Ottawa Senators had the best record of all the Canadian teams last year, the Robert Hoover (of Animal House fame) GPA of Canadian teams. Even if the Montréal Canadiens get off to a great start, there will still be doubt because of the team's great start last year.
The puzzling trades and signings haven't helped the landscape including dealing the prime years of P.K. Subban and the lack of return in Edmonton for trading a pair of #1 overall picks.
