Editor's note: TSN is offering an alternate channel for those who want to watch the Ottawa Senators Sunday night so TSN5 can carry the Grey Cup.
NBCSN gives us a gift but not the whole gift. Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid in the rematch game in Edmonton Tuesday night will be simulcast on NBCSN but there is a huge catch. The network is carrying an early game at 7:30 pm with the Oilers starting at 9 pm Eastern. If the early game is quick and ends in regulation, we might only miss the 1st period.
In ancient lore, CBC started its Hockey Night in Canada coverage in the 2nd period. But this is 2016. The NHL Network should start covering the game until NBCSN can take over. The channel will likely carry the TSN4 feed since Gord Miller, Chris Cuthbert, and Ray Ferraro also work for NBCSN. The rebroadcast will air the following afternoon on the NHL Network.
The NHL Network has a pair of games this weekend, showing Alex Ovechkin in Toronto and simulcasting the front half of the HNIC doubleheader on CBC. The channel will also pick up a Sunday night game with the Ottawa Senators at Madison Square Garden though this is NOT the Hometown Hockey game. If somehow the NHL Network picks up the TSN5 feed, we know Gord Miller will call the game since Chris Cuthbert will be calling the Grey Cup.
CBC will wrap up the HNIC doubleheader with the Vancouver Canucks in Denver.
City TV has the Ottawa Senators at home hosting Carolina.
Rogers Sportsnet has the revenge Original 6 game with the Montréal Canadiens at Joe Louis Arena. The Hometown Hockey game is the Grey Cup matinee as the desert team is in Edmonton. The festivities will be from Timmins, ON.
Wednesday Night Hockey has an all-Canadian tilt as the Maple Leafs are in Calgary.

The NHL acknowledges the presence of the Grey Cup in its scheduling. The Hometown Hockey game is scheduled in the afternoon. No Canadian team plays a home game at night.
However, the NHL teams in the cities of the Grey Cup teams do have road games Sunday night in the United States. We realize the scheduling was ironic since after all, the Grey Cup could have featured Hamilton and Saskatchewan, the 2 CFL markets without a NHL team.
Senators fans might have a slight edge at the end since the 7 pm NHL start at Madison Square Garden could end before the end of the CFL game. TSN is offering an alternate channel to show the Ottawa Senators so TSN5 has to can carry the Senators so that channel won't show the Grey Cup. For U.S. fans of the Senators, NHL Network will show that game.
Flames fans can watch more of the football game before a 7:30 pm NHL start in Philadelphia but short of overtime, would miss the rest of the football game.
PVRs/DVRs will be in play and even loyal hockey fans know this is a unique situation.

The NHL Network did use the Rogers Sportsnet East feed for the Habs hosting Carolina. That move made this a nice Thanksgiving treat.

We were able to attend the Hometown Hockey festivities in Windsor. The wind was howling in from the United States (moving north to south). We will have much more on that later. But it was very cool to see the game and be able to look across the river at the arena where the game was being played.

Pat Foley and Eddie Olczyk were talking about one of the referees being from Nova Scotia in the Chicago-Edmonton game Monday night. Olczyk brought up the part of Canada that is a ½ hour ahead. Foley said that when they list the starting times for games, they would be 7 pm Central, 8 pm Eastern, and 8:30 pm in Nova Scotia.
SMH. Nova Scotia has its own time zone with New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Labrador. Newfoundland, not Nova Scotia, is 30 minutes ahead of the Atlantic Time Zone.
We teased the Fox Sports crew for not knowing Moncton had its own time zone during the 2015 Women's World Cup. Hockey announcers should know better.

The CBC only had 5 promos by my count in the early game. Perhaps the NHL Network covered over a promo but even I doubt that happened. Based on recent patterns, a Kim's Convenience promo got missed.
Running 6 promos in a game shouldn't be that difficult. The last promo ran with over 12 minutes left in the 3rd period. Would be nice to actually count more than 6 to make up for the lost promos.
Early game: Canada's Smartest Person; Kim's Convenience (1st); Rick Mercer Report (2nd); Dragons' Den; Canada's Smartest Person (3rd)
