Toronto FC scored a pair of goals in less than 2 minutes in the first extended time period to win 7-5 in aggregate and 5-2 over the Montréal Impact. The Reds will host the Seattle Sounders for the 2016 MLS Cup on December 10.
The Impact had a 1-goal advantage coming into Leg 2 at BMO Field. The Reds had a 2-goal advantage in the away goals tiebreaker. The 3-2 Toronto win in regulation negated all of that, forcing the extra periods.
Benoit Cheyrou and Tosaint Ricketts scored in extra time. Jozy Altidore, who set a record by scoring in his 5th straight playoff game, assisted on the Ricketts goal.
Dominic Oduro scored the first goal for the Impact in the 24th minute. Armando Cooper and Altidore countered for Toronto in the first half.
Montréal's Ignacio Piatti tied the game at 2 in the 53rd minute. Nick Hagglund gave Toronto the 3-2 lead with a header in the 68th minute.
Toronto's Sebastian Giovinco came off the field in extra time with an injury to his right leg.
The 2 games combined for 97,004 fans: 61,004 on November 22 opener at Olympic Stadium and 36,000 tonight in the pouring rain at BMO Field.
We'll have a more extensive preview next week.
