The 2017 remake of Twin Peaks has similar mysterious elements; a lot of the old actors, living and dead; and the same David Lynch/Mark Frost sense of mischief. What we haven't seen a lot of in the 2017 version of Twin Peaks is Canada.
Twin Peaks was 5 miles south of the Canadian border. Canada was the home of the casino/brothel One Eyed Jack's. Audrey Horne made her way up to One Eyed Jack's not realizing her father was behind the establishment. Canada is where Audrey auditioned by tying a cherry stem with her teeth and tongue.

You might remember Jacques Renault, one of three Renault brothers with his older brother Jean and younger brother Bernard. Walter Olkewicz who played Renault in the original series, was reincarnated as Jean-Michel Renault in the 2017 version. The Renault brothers owned The Roadhouse, located in Twin Peaks proper.

Even though the Canada part was British Columbia, bringing in a French-Canadian element was something rarely seen on U.S. television back then.
"Diane, 11:30am, February 24th. Entering the town of Twin Peaks. Five miles south of the Canadian border, twelve miles west of the state line."
Canada was portrayed as a destination for sin in the original version. Agent Dale Cooper and Sheriff Harry S. Truman often talked about the difficulties of catching people in Canada, so Canada worked well in the 1990 version. Some might not like the negative portrayal of Canada, but the border element to hide sex, drugs, and gambling added some needed mystery to the Great White North. The lure of a 2-year difference in the drinking age would have been enough in most small border towns.
The 2017 version has been more about Las Vegas and South Dakota than Canada. Even fictional Canada can't compete on sin compared to the real or fictional Las Vegas.
