The Filmmakers, the series that explores classic Canadian films before showing the film, is back for Season 2 on CBC starting Saturday night. Johanna Schneller and Amanda Parris are back as hosts of The Filmmakers.
Season 2 will focus on women filmmakers. Season 2 will only have 8 films instead of the 11 films featured in Season 1.
In the 2017 version, 4 of the 11 filmmakers were female: Sarah Polley, Mina Shum, Deepa Mehta, and Jennifer Baichwal. Shum is the only repeat director in Season 2.

CanadianCrossing.com film coverage
I have seen the films listed in the first 5 weeks. I have missed a running or two of Ava and would like to catch that film. The features films in the last 2 weeks were mysteries to me.
The titles are all relatively recent, except for Gabrielle (2013), which is the only film in French. Angry Inuk is the only documentary. Meditation Park and Window Horses both feature Emmy-nominated actress Sandra Oh.
We will be curious as to what might change in Season 2. Parris hosted the Film 101 series in Season 1, but the promotional pictures imply that Parris should have more of a role in Season 2.
The panel discussions might have been more insightful than the directors' viewpoint, but both segments contributed to the success in Season 1.
