Tatiana Maslany — for her outstanding work in the final season of Orphan Black — has one more Emmy nomination. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences didn't forget her performance even though Orphan Black concluded almost a year ago.
Maslany will be up against fellow Canadian Sandra Oh, who received her first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Killing Eve. Oh previously received 5 straight Emmy nominations in the supporting actress category for her role as Cristina Yang in the first 5 seasons (2005-2009) of Grey's Anatomy. She is also the first actress of Asian descent to receive a Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
Maslany won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2016 and was nominated in that category in 2015. She was not eligible for the 2017 Emmys since the show was moved up to summertime. Maslany won 5 straight Canadian Screen Awards for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Dramatic Role for Orphan Black. The last woman not named Tatiana Maslany to win that award was Meg Tilly for Bomb Girls.
The other 4 ladies in this category are Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale); Keri Russell (The Americans); Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld); and Claire Foy (The Crown). Moss won last year's Emmy in this category.
Canadians will finally get a chance to watch Killing Eve on Bravo on July 22. Killing Eve, just like Orphan Black, airs in the United States on BBC America.
