The Saturday CFL tripleheader goes late into the night in the east. The week starts off on Friday Night Football with Johnny Manziel and the Montréal Alouettes traveling to Winnipeg.
Ottawa draws the start of the tripleheader hosting Edmonton in the late afternoon. Toronto hosts Saskatchewan in the bright lights of prime time with the rematch of the East final last season. The other Ontario team — Hamilton — travels all the west to Vancouver.
The Calgary Stampeders get to enjoy the early fall breezes in southern Alberta.

Bye week: Calgary
The BC Lions finally won a road game pulling off the feat in Montréal. The game featured a single offence TD (BC), a special teams TD (Montréal), and a pair of Pick 6s late (BC). The Lions are now in the conversation with Winnipeg over the potential crossover team with its first 2-game winning streak of the season.
Antonio Pipkin struggled for the Alouettes so the cries were there for Johnny Manziel. The problem is that Manziel isn't like any other backup QB. Jonathon Jennings came in for Travis Lulay and threw a TD pass on his first play. Manziel wouldn't be able to be that effective cold off the bench.
Lulay is expected to be out 4-6 weeks.
This week, Manziel returns to being the starter. Pipkin went 2-2 as the Alouettes starter, the best mark of any Montréal quarterback in some time.
Toronto is the only CFL team without a road win. Calgary is undefeated at home.

Calgary blew past Hamilton at the Hall of Fame game. The Tiger-Cats always host the Hall of Fame game with the Hall of Fame being in Hamilton. Now the Hall of Fame is literally at Tim Hortons Field. A suggestion in the CFL forums had the idea to package the Hall of Fame interviews and make them available, especially on ESPN+. For the price U.S. viewers are paying, they should get CFL Wired and pregame shows from TSN.

Saskatchewan scored 3 TDs, but only 1 on offence and that was past the 3-minute warning in the 2nd half. Ottawa deserves credit for rising to the occasion to snap its 2-game losing streak and the Roughriders 4-win run. Ottawa fans love both results though the RedBlacks and Tiger-Cats have a pair of game remaining against each other in late October.
CanadianCrossing.com CFL coverage
Chris Cuthbert and Matt Dunigan worked together Friday night giving Cuthbert a long flight from Montréal to Regina. If Cuthbert and Gord Miller wrote a book about crazy travel adventures, I would buy several copies.
'Modern Family' shows CFL action
Matthew Cauz wrote a really nice story for CFL.ca about CFL references in the popular culture south of the 49th parallel. The Simpsons, Modern Family, and How I Met Your Mother are some of the U.S. TV shows that have referenced the CFL. Here was my take on the How I Met Your Mother Grey Cup episode.
Cauz was very gracious to mention Canadian Crossing and our take on Modern Family using footage from a Toronto Argonauts preseason game. His story was very well-researched and not just because we were mentioned.
