Northern Rescue started on CBC Gem in March. In a surprise, the show is available on Netflix even before the program airs on CBC television.
Northern Rescue features William Baldwin and Kathleen Robertson. The family drama is about a family who loses the mother (Michelle Nolden) and then leaves Boston to Turtle Island Bay to live with her sister (Robertson).
Parry Sound, Ontario doubles as Turtle Island Bay.
William Baldwin, who doubles as executive producer, notes in the video that everyone who works on the show is Canadian but him.
Amalia Williamson (Maddie), Spencer Macpherson (Scout), and Taylor Thorne (Taylor) round out the cast. Maddie's character serves as the focal point of the drama.
Baldwin and Robertson are well-known names so that might account for the early presence on the U.S. side. Still, this marks the debut of a Canadian TV show at the same time on both sides of the border.
The family drama is a bit overwrought. Baldwin compares Northern Rescue to Everwood and Party of Five, among others. There are 10 episodes. And there is a penguin.
The northern in Northern Rescue isn't that far north but you can know that Canada is substituting for New England.

The program will likely air on CBC this summer but we don't have a definite plan.
Northern Rescue is currently streaming on CBC Gem in Canada and on Netflix in the United States.
