Former Montréal Expos Vladimir Guerrero and Dave Martinez participating in the ceremonial first pitch. Max Scherzer — in the powder blue Montréal Expos uniform — pitching 7 scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts. Scherzer had a hit and even stole a base, the second in his career and the first this season. Elias Sports says Scherzer is the only pitcher since 1900 with multiple such games with a hit, stolen base, and 10 strikeouts.
The Washington Nationals did an excellent job playing cosplay as the Montréal Expos in the 6-0 win over the Kansas City Royals yesterday at Nationals Park in Washington.
Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez shared his Montréal Expos experience in his pregame press conference wearing the powder blue Expos uniform. Martinez spoke a few lines of French and of his time in Montréal from 1988-1991.
“When I first got traded there [from the Cubs], because I was young, it was kind of a culture shock, it really was,” Martinez said. “Going to a different country, you go to the grocery store, people spoke French. So, it was a learning process. I enjoyed the city very much, the people, the fans, it was awesome."
“I’ve always said hopefully they bring a team back there.”

We previewed this tribute in our Canada Day reflections column earlier in the week. We recognise that some Expos fans have been waiting for this tribute for some time. Other Expos fans may not like the Washington team wearing the powder blues. I am torn in both directions but think the tribute is important.
The mound logo was a nice touch. One of the best logos in baseball.
No sign of Youppi! Maybe his passport wasn't up to date.
