We watch with envy about the well-marketed American films in the United States versus Canadian marketing for Canadian films in Canada. A couple of recent examples turn out to be more "Canadian" than we might have expected.
Good Boys is a highly marketed film in the United States. Jacob Tremblay (Room) is one of the "good boys." Seth Rogen has a smaller role in the film.
2019 TIFF Canadian film preview
Tremblay has been very busy with TV and films such as the huge American film Wonder with Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson. He also has a prominent role in the Xavier Dolan film The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, which finally found a home in theatres in major Canadian cities.
Hopefully, a Canadian screening is a necessary step to get this film into the United States.
CanadianCrossing.com film coverage
Ready Or Not looks to be a honeymoon combined with a horror version of hide-and-seek. The movie stars Australian model/actress Samara Weaving with Adam Brody, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell as her new in-laws.
The film was shot in and around Toronto. Having a few Canadian actors as a result is not a surprise. This film has a lot of Canadian actors for an American film, even one shot in Canada.
Mark O'Brien (Republic of Doyle, Goalie) plays the new husband of Weaving's character. The movie also stars Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp), Nicky Guadagni, Elyse Levesque (Shoot the Messenger, Orphan Black), Kristian Bruun (Orphan Black), and John Ralston.
Having multiple Canadian actors does not make a film Canadian. Director, producers, writers play significant roles to determine a Canadian film.
