In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are taking the unavoidable decision of canceling all live NCFD events. However, National Canadian Film Day will still take place on April 22: https://t.co/qulvlqW6r7 • #CanFilmDay https://t.co/WLLUnOUshs

The joy of National Canadian Film Day is to share Canadian films in the presence of others. The many small and large activities surrounding the 2020 National Canadian Film Day have been cancelled. The Canadian film celebration will continue online.
There is a curated list of 20+20 films and how you can access those films. Some of them are only available in Canada but many are available in the United States. You can organise a Canadian film watch party with those you are in shelter in place. I have seen 37 of the 40 selected films, except for Breakaway; Falls Around Her; and Nurse.Fighter.Boy.
Films can be found on CBC, CBC Gem, Encore+, Netflix, Hollywood Suite, Crave, the NFB, and other streaming services.
In lieu of live activities with Canadian filmmakers, #CanFilmDay Live will be an interactive livestream from 6-10 pm Eastern. Guests include Atom Egoyan, Colm Feore, Mina Shum, Philippe Falardeau, Vinay Virmani, Patricia Rozema, Emily Hampshire, Peter Keleghan, Mary Young Leckie, and Don McKellar.
One advantage to the current scenario is that you can watch more Canadian films on Canadian Film Day. You won't be distracted by friends or outside.

We recently profiled actors from Schitt's Creek and some of the projects they have worked on. If you wanted to honour Stevie Budd, you can watch Emily Hampshire films. Prominent Hampshire roles include Good Neighbours; My Awkward Sexual Adventure; The Trotsky; and All the Wrong Reasons.
If you love Molly Parker in American TV shows such as Deadwood, Lost in Space, and House of Cards, you would enjoy Parker in Weirdos; Marion Bridge; Trigger; and Men with Brooms.
Paul Gross can be found in Hyena Road; Men with Brooms; Wilby Wonderful; and Barney's Version.
You could explore the Canadian films shown on the CBC in recent weeks to replace NHL games on Saturday nights if you weren't able to access CBC.

We have reviewed a lot of Canadian films. Feel free to check out our film reviews. You might even disagree with our take on a Canadian film. Maybe you loved The Decline.
Our reviews also include Canadian film case studies: Canadian films that don't look like Canadian films.

We just picked the top 10 Canadian films of the previous decade. The list includes a lot of films that just missed the cut. Plenty of great inspiration.
If money is tight during these times, CBC Gem is available with commercials for free in Canada. Encore+ and the NFB offers films for free. Kanopy, Hoopla, and other services are available through libraries for the "price" of having a library card. The regular in-person events are often free.
