By now in a parallel universe, some of the Canadian NHL teams might have advanced to the second round. Those players might be playing golf. We have no clue.
CBC is continuing its Canadian film lineup on Saturday nights in lieu of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Let's look at what is coming up.
May 2
7p Jean of the Joneses (2016)
9p Picture Day (2012)
May 9
7p The Adventure Club (2017)
9p Into the Forest (2015)
We looked into Jean of the Joneses as part of The Filmmakers series. Our critique was that there wasn't much visibly Canadian in the Stella Maghie film. Compared to Maghie's subsequent films, Jean of the Joneses is "very Canadian." While we critique the Canadian elements of the film, you will likely enjoy the film.
Tatiana Maslany makes Picture Day absolutely enjoyable. If you are used to seeing Maslany in serious work such as Orphan Black, she can be sweet and funny. The CBC should consider a Tatiana Maslany double feature later this spring.
I know less than nothing about The Adventure Club. Looks to be a kids movie or a movie with kids.
Into the Forest is a fine choice for lots of reasons. Showing a feminist apocalyptic film during a pandemic has some parallels. Patricia Rozema is such a gifted filmmaker; she gets a lot out of Ellen Page and Evan Rachel Wood.

We are (likely) correctly assuming these films are available on CBC Gem. Seriously, if you are in Canada, CBC Gem offers up some cool options in film, TV, and digital shows. If $ is an issue, you can watch CBC Gem for free with ads in Canada.

Meat the Future is up next as CBC runs Canadian films from what would have been the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival 2020. Cell-based meat is a soft spot for me with our sibling site, BalanceofFood.com.
The series runs Thursday nights on CBC and CBC Gem at 8 pm local time and the documentary Channel at 9 pm EDT. You can check out the list of Canadian films.
