Today is Election Day in the United States. Canada is paying attention.
The elephant next door, as referred to Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, has been at its crankiest in the last 4 years. The border is literally closed due to inaction on COVID-19.
We realise that all the results won't be in when people go to bed tonight. We might have some idea where the results will go. Canadians and Americans should be patient.
Canadians can monitor the major U.S. networks that will start coverage at 7 pm Eastern.
CBC News Special: America Votes with Adrienne Arsenault, Andrew Chang and Ian Hanomansing will start at 8 pm Eastern. CTV will air The American Election 2020 with anchor Lisa LaFlamme at 8 pm Eastern. Americans who can pick up CBC and/or CTV have some extra choices on Election Night.
You can also listen to CBC Radio One coverage of America Votes 2020 with anchors Susan Bonner and Piya Chattopadhyay along with Elamin Abdelmahmoud, Chris Hall, and Éric Grenier. The CBC Radio One coverage starts at 7 pm Eastern.
Abdelmahmoud, who co-hosts the Party Lines podcast with Rosemary Barton, has been hosting a podcast Party in the USA about the U.S. election.

Nick Nurse is the American coach of the Toronto Raptors. Nurse has been in Toronto long enough (2013) that his two younger sons, Leo and Rocky, were born in Toronto. Nurse worked hard to get U.S. citizens based in Canada to vote in the fall election.
Nurse noted that there are 620,000 U.S. citizens living in Canada and just over 5% voted in the 2016 election. Nurse appeared with Susan Rice, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, on an Instagram Live event on October 19 to rally U.S. citizens to get out to vote.
The Toronto Raptors tried to get Scotiabank Arena as a place for U.S. citizens to vote. That proved unsuccessful due to COVID-19 patterns that shifted to Toronto.
Turns out Rice, who would be a leading contender to be the next Secretary of State if Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are elected, knows Canada rather well. Rice's husband is from Victoria and is a former CBC producer. The couple lived in Toronto for several years.
You might recall that Stephen Harper had prohibited Canadians who were away for more than 5 years from voting from abroad. There is no U.S. limitation on its citizens.

How much does Sarah Palin know about Canada?
Turns out Biden has a deeper connection with Canada. Chris Hall reported that the family of Neilia Hunter, Biden's first wife, came from Canada. In the December 2016 trip to Canada, Biden noted that he wanted his sons to be Mounties when they grew up.

Canadian Senator Lynn Beyak, conservative in behaviour but booted from the caucus in 2018 after her controversial comments about the residential school system, was caught sending a $300 donation to the Republican Party.
Beyak has since said the donation was made in "error." She provided a non-existent New York address and postal code when making her donation. U.S. federal law prohibits foreigners for making campaign donations.
Beyak is one of a few Canadian senators appointed by Stephen Harper who have negatively distinguished themselves.
Removing a Canadian senator is almost impossible. The Senate Ethics Committee finally recommended that Don Meredith be expelled from the Senate after allegations of having an affair with a teenage girl. Meredith resigned on his own before the vote.
