For the first time since 2014, Schitt's Creek is not in the CBC winter lineup. The 2021 CBC winter lineup does include a lot of CBC favourites missing from the fall schedule due to COVID-19. The new winter season starts January 4.
The theme to the CBC winter schedule is delayed debuts. Kim's Convenience starts on January 19; Coroner won't begin until February 3; Burden of Truth and The Fifth Estate get underway on January 28.
Baroness Von Sketch Show is running 5 bonus episodes in what has been the Schitt's Creek winter timeslot. This is the final season for the sketch comedy show.
CBC season wrapups are extending beyond the normal stop time in April for the Stanley Cup playoffs. The CBC schedule is out before the NHL schedule, so this could prove intriguing. CBC may show NHL games but has no control over production or scheduling of those hockey games. We have seen a tentative end date of May 8 but that is subject to change.
There are 4 new Canadian shows, 2 of which we knew were coming.
- Humour Resources (6) has Canadian comedian Jon Dore acting as a fictional human resources manager but interviewing real comedians about HR scenarios.
- Pretty Hard Cases (10) is the new title for Lady Dicks, which we have written about previously. Meredith MacNeill and American actor Adrienne C. Moore plays female detectives in their 40s. The Canadian debut is on February 3.
- Anyone's Game (6) is the new title for Orangeville Prep, a docu series on basketball’s most successful preparatory program. The series premieres on January 15.
- Arctic Vets (10) is a docu series on the wildlife of Canada’s north. The show takes over in that Friday timeslot on February 26.
Quiz (3), Belgravia (6), Les Miserables (8) are British seat fillers. Our usual complaints over British seat fillers will resume once COVID-19 doesn't do significant damage to the production timeline of TV shows.
Canadian films will run on Saturday nights until Hockey Night in Canada returns.

2020 CBC television fall preview
2020 CBC television winter schedule
Diggstown, which has aired on the CBC schedule the last 2 winters, has been renewed for Season 3 but isn't on the winter schedule.
A few dramas switched nights including Coroner (Wednesday) and Burden of Truth (Thursday).
We noted earlier that Baroness Von Sketch Show has 5 bonus episodes. While the U.S. audience only ran 8 days behind the Canadian audience on Season 5 this fall, the U.S. audience will have to wait to see the bonus episodes on IFC until February 24, long after the episodes will air in Canada.
