The next step of easing border measures begins on August 9. All travellers eligible to enter Canada must enter travel details and proof of vaccination via #ArriveCAN, if they’re fully vaccinated, before entering Canada. https://t.co/nTgbEX6CYD pic.twitter.com/WKCZaVuegO

As of 12:01 am local time, the Canada-U.S. border is open … in one direction … with caveats … pack plenty of patience.
You need a negative molecular test result within 72 hours of arrival or 72 hours of the scheduled departure time of their final direct flight to Canada. You have to use the ArriveCAN app. If you don't make the cut, you can return to the United States.
If you are literally coming into Canada today, you have to wait until today to submit their information into the app.
The post-arrival COVID-19 test isn't required but travelers could be randomly selected to take the test.
The U.S. border isn't open until at least August 21. Presumably, Americans can cross back in from Canada.
One small consolation: the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) workers reached a tentative agreement on Friday. Otherwise, border wait times would have sharply increased.
August 9 is the date fully vaccinated Americans can cross into Canada with some fine print
We have talked about border oddities between Canada and the United States. The fully vaccinated French citizens in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon are now allowed to enter Canada as of today. The French territory is just south of Newfoundland and Labrador. The rest of the world has to wait for September 7.
If you live near the Canadian border, where a rejection won't be too costly or problematic, follow the steps and go for it. Driving gives you more options since you can only fly to certain Canadian cities.
As much as we would love to recommend travel to Canada, waiting might be worthwhile. See how things go with other travelers. Learn from what they do or what happens to them.
This breaks my heart. This is the reality where we are. This is better than where we were. Take extra time to research Canadian travel experiences.
My vision was to cross the border at Windsor for the day and come back. Hopefully soon. Very soon.

We understand if you choose to go against this advice. Respect. Joy if you get into Canada. Sorrow if you don't. Happy travels.
