Since we aren't doing a NHL Stanley Cup notebook until after the draft lottery, we should mention that the NHL Draft Lottery will be Tuesday night (May 10) at 6:30 pm Eastern on Rogers Sportsnet in Canada and both ESPN and ESPN+ in the States.
The Montréal Canadiens have the best odds for the top pick at 18.5%. Yes, the team that went to the Stanley Cup finals was very different than this year's team. The Ottawa Senators have a 6.5% chance to get the top spot. The new rules prevent how far teams can move up so the Winnipeg Jets (1.5%) and Vancouver Canucks (0.5%) can only move up to as many as 10 spots further up the ladder.
Les Habs want the top spot to improve the team and would be more significant since the Bell Centre will host the 2022 NHL Draft on July 7-8. Guess Gary Bettman got tired of threatening to take away the draft from Montréal.

The current Canadian playoff teams — Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers — will have their draft pick order determined by how they do in the Stanley Cup playoffs chase. The Canadiens drafted next to last in the 2021 NHL draft since the team made the Stanley Cup finals.
