Editor's note: This story has been updated with the news that Season 7 will be the final one for Workin' Moms.
We have the new and returning CBC shows for the 2022-2023 season. Let's see what we have in store.
Murdoch Mysteries (Season 16) and This Hour Has 22 Minutes (Season 30) run in the fall and winter.
Fall
Rick Mercer is back hosting specials featuring Canadian comedians in Comedy Night With Rick Mercer.
Fakes takes us into a world where best friends "accidentally build one of the largest fake ID empires in North America." Emilija Baranac, Jennifer Tong, and Richard Harmon star in the Netflix co-production.
Sort Of (Season 2) and Strays (Season 2) will be returning comedies this fall. Diggstown (Season 4), Heartland (Season 16), and Moonshine (Season 2) are also back in autumn.
Summit '72 is a documentary reflecting the 50-year anniversary of the 1972 Canada-Russia hockey series.
The North Water is a CBC/BBC co-production that aired in 2021 in the U.S. on AMC+, BBC Two in the United Kingdom, and in Canada on Super Channel Fuse. The 6-episode run stars Jack O’Connell and Colin Farrell. The program will also air on ICI Radio-Canada Télé.
The Fifth Estate (Season 48) and Marketplace (Season 50) as well as Dragons' Den (Season 17), The Great Canadian Baking Show (Season 6), and The Passionate Eye are back in the fall.
Winter
Run the Burbs (Season 2), Son of a Critch (Season 2), Workin’ Moms (Season 7), and Pretty Hard Cases (Season 3) return this winter to CBC. Season 7 will be the final season for Workin’ Moms, voluntarily leaving the stage.
Jeff Lemire's graphic novel Essex County will be a 5-episode limited series that is headed to television. The miniseries "tells the story of four disparate characters linked together through bloodlines."
Patrick J. Adams and Karine Vanasse are the primary players in Plan B, a drama where Philip (Adams) is able to go back in time to save his relationship with Evelyn (Vanasse). The show is adapted from the Radio-Canada French-language drama.
The Nature of Things (Season 62), Still Standing (Season 8), and Best in Miniature (Season 2) also return this winter.
Summer
SkyMed (9 episodes) is a drama about diverse ensemble of young first responders in the remote North. The debut is set for July 10.
Race Against the Tide (Season 2) also debuts on July 10 with new host Maestro Fresh Wes replacing Shaun Majumder.

The guys from TallBoyz — Guled Abdi, Vance Banzo, Tim Blair, Franco Nguyen — made brief appearances on the new season of Kids in the Hall. Bruce McCulloch, one of the Kids, is the Lorne Michaels for Tallboyz.
The sketch show won several Canadian Screen Awards in 2022, including best sketch comedy program or series as well as best performance in a sketch or variety series.
So logically (#sarcasm) the CBC cancels Tallboyz after 3 seasons.
We love the CBC but some of their programming decisions involve a lot of SMH (shake my head).
Coroner has not been renewed after 4 seasons. This scenario is different since Serinda Swan (Jenny Cooper) is leaving the show.
"Serinda Swan has made the decision to leave the series to focus on new creative endeavours including directing, and we are now discussing options with the producers in light of her departure," said Sally Catto, CBC general manager, entertainment, factual & sports, in a press release.
Season 4 of Coroner will air on the CW this fall in the United States.
The Red was supposed to debut this upcoming season. Sarah Podemski and Sarah Gadon were scheduled to star in the investigative drama created and written by Canadian Métis director, writer and producer Marie Clements (Red Snow). The show has been shelved.
Clements is creating a film and TV show called Bones of Crows. The film will be released in 2022-2023 with the TV show coming in 2023-2024.
We were looking forward to The Red. Hoping Bones of Crows ends up on the air.

Great to have Rick Mercer back on CBC. Hope the move to Sunday night will be good for Moonshine.
Your humble narrator shakes the collective head over Strays getting a Season 2 and not Strange Empire or Young Drunk Punk.
Plan B has a bit of Being Erica in terms of time travel. Intrigued to see another French-Canadian adaptation. This Life, adapted from Nouvelle adresse, had Torri Higginson and Lauren Lee Smith as the lead actors from 2015-2017.
Fakes feels a bit too pretty, more of a CW type show. Netflix hasn't done well by Canada in producing shows. We've been proven wrong before.
Moving Race Against the Tide to a summer slot is an upgrade in the schedule.
Murdoch Mysteries could give a boost to a Canadian ongoing drama instead of a dumping ground for short-lived series (The Porter) or seat fillers. Doesn't have to be Frankie Drake Mysteries; even Moonshine might be an interesting choice.
