Bilal Baig won Best Lead Performer, Comedy for their work on Sort Of. Baig was not nominated last year where the acting awards were separated by gender. Glad the move was made to made to reinvent the acting categories. Still want 10 nominees instead of 8.
Amanda Brugel and Alfre Woodard, in guest performer categories, were the only women to win acting awards. Brugel is a utility actor popping into numerous shows (limited list: Kim's Convenience, The Handmaid's Tale, Orphan Black, Workin' Moms, Canada's Drag Race, Pretty Hard Cases).
TallBoyz (Guled Abdi, Vance Banzo, Tim Blair, Franco Nguyen) won best sketch comedy program or series, best writing in a sketch comedy, and Bruce McCulloch for best direction. CBC cancelled the show. Since Baroness von Sketch and Tallboyz are gone, this category may not be that relevant in 2024.
Christopher Plummer will not be a repeat winner in Best Supporting Performer, Drama for his work on Departure. Plummer died February 5, 2021. 6 of the 8 actors in the category are in shows that are not returning for the 2024 CSAs.
Ennis Esmer is seamless as he jumps into roles in Canadian TV (and film). He worked on Private Eyes and Schitt's Creek. Good to see him get some CSA love in Children Ruin Everything.
