The Hamilton Tiger-Cats go very far north to Edmonton for Thursday Night Football. This might be a really good opportunity for the Elks to finally win a home game, though Hamilton had its first win last week. The all-time CFL home losing streak stands at 19 straight home losses at Commonwealth Stadium.
CBS Sports Network carries that game in the U.S.
Toronto-Montréal isn't the rivalry of old in the CFL. They are the best in the East so far, even with the Alouettes 2-game losing streak. Should be a good contest in La Belle Province on Friday night.
We have the first doubleheader of the season with a pair of Saturday games.
Winnipeg is in Ottawa for the late afternoon contest. Chances are the Ottawa home winning streak will not get extended to 2 games.
Red meets green as the Calgary Stampeders hope for a better result at Mosaic Stadium against the Roughriders than the last time the teams played in Calgary.
CBS Sports Network will have the Saturday late game in Regina. If the early game runs long, the U.S. audience might get the end of that game.
BC gets to enjoy the limited summer that Vancouver gets.

Even we know about the Rouge. #Cfl #edmontonElks
— Shreveport Pirates (@ShrevPirates) July 7, 2023
Kate Beirness said at halftime on Thursday's game that an American friend texted her to ask what that was all about. That was the rouge factor in the first half.
Edmonton scored its first 4 points on 2 missed field goal attempts and 2 punts into the end zone. The Elks finally got a touchdown and extra point to put up an 8-point advantage.
Saskatchewan engineered a late TD and 2-point conversion. Going to OT 11-11? Likely. This is the CFL so this happened.
Brett Lauther's kickoff went into the end zone. CJ Sims of Edmonton laid back and conceded the single point. Stunning.
Edmonton still had a chance, thwarted by a Nick Marshall pick.
Your humble narrator was hoping Edmonton would try and punt the ball at the end of the game to get one final rouge to tie the score. That may sound wild to our American fans and readers but this is the CFL.
As I was learning about the rouge and asked good questions at CFL games, I knew a kick was involved and balls had to be returned out of the end zone. The Edmonton coaches should have told Sims to take the ball out at all costs.

Winnipeg scored the last 20 points of the game in defeating Calgary at home. The Stampeders got out to a 11-4 lead before the Blue Bombers scored a touchdown late in the second quarter. 24-11 score.
The Stampeders are rooting for Ottawa and Hamilton on-field frustration.

Jeremiah Masoli. He didn't look so good even before he collapsed on the field in the second quarter. "Was he really ready to go?" The love that the Hamilton fans had for Masoli is a testament to who he is as a person. The cheap shot that injured Masoli last season: still angers your humble narrator.
Masoli ruptured his left Achilles tendon in Hamilton. The Ottawa quarterback will require surgery and be out for the 2023 season.
Dustin Crum stepped in and did fairly well for the RedBlacks but Ottawa needs to find a quarterback solution that doesn't involve Masoli. 3 Down Nation offers more comprehensive solutions than our own speculation. Love that 2 Canadian quarterbacks are on their list: Michael O'Connor wouldn't cost them anything but salary.
Ottawa did bring in Tyrrell Pigrome and Jake Dunniway this week.
We are rooting for Jeremiah Masoli the person and then the player.

Vernon Adams Jr. had a much better game at home against his old team from Montréal. The Alouettes have historically done poorly in Vancouver.
Montréal blocked a BC punt. BC blocked an Alouettes field goal attempt and Jalon Edwards-Cooper returned the ball for a touchdown. An exciting game for special teams.
Mathieu Betts leads the CFL with 9 sacks as part of a very tough Lions defence.
We don't mean to be cruel to Edmonton in terms of mentioning the long home losing streak. Not having a home win since 2019 is a very long time. Jason Maas was the Edmonton coach in 2019. The Edmonton team won 5 home games in 2019, heading for a 8-10 record.
Hamilton played well enough to defeat a struggling Ottawa team.
Saskatchewan snapped its own home losing streak of 7 in the bizarre win over the Elks. This was the longest home losing streak for the Roughriders since 2001.
Saskatchewan won 3 home games in 2022, all by July 8. The Roughriders lost their last 6 home games in 2022 and the home opener in 2023 to Winnipeg.
BOBBY DUBEAU IS IN THE BUILDING! #CFLGameday pic.twitter.com/vMM0DG6zH2

Your humble narrator has been to every CFL city and Moncton though over several years, not in 15 days.
Meet Bobby Dubeau, who attended games in all 9 CFL stadiums over 15 days to set a Guinness World Record. Dubeau's quest ended in Vancouver Sunday night. Congratulations to him on his quest. Very impressive.
We tease about Canadians not traveling to see their own country. Dubeau traveled to Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec before going home to British Columbia.
While your humble narrator has been to all 9 CFL cities, haven't had the pleasure of being at Tim Hortons Field or the new Mosaic Stadium.

Dustin Nielson and Glen Suitor with Brit Dort watched the "weird" game in Regina on Thursday. Nielson and Matt Dunigan with John Lu got to spend a nice evening in Winnipeg on Friday.
Marshall Ferguson and Duane Forde with Kenzie Lalonde saw Jeremiah Masoli's return to Hamilton in the red and black.
Nielson got a third game with Suitor and Farhan Lalji in Vancouver on Sunday night.
Matthew Scianitti ran the panel for Kate Beirness on Saturday and Sunday. Milt Stegall had the week off.
Rod Smith got a longer vacation away from the CFL.
With the Roughriders wearing the retro uniforms, Suitor made a reference to Canad Inns Stadium, the old Winnipeg Blue Bombers home. He made it sound like an accident but I think he said it on purpose to introduce a flashback moment. Nielson thought they were in a time warp. The whole thing was funny; good on Suitor to pull that off.
