Mae Martin will host the 2024 Canadian Screen Awards conclusion program on May 31 on CBC and CBC Gem. The CBC show will not be live as in pre-pandemic times … again.
The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announced the Canadian film and Canadian television nominations earlier today. We have the prominent nominees in separate articles for Canadian film and Canadian television.
Canadian Screen Week will run May 26-June 1 at the CBC Broadcast Centre in Toronto.
The Canadian Screen Awards got delayed. The new setup has Canadian Screen Week on May 28-31 with the nominations announcement this morning. Originally, the announcements were supposed to be on February 22 with the week celebrations on April 7-14.
Tammy Frick, CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, said in a statement that venue availability and budgetary concern figured into the date and event shifts.
The finale will be tape-delayed (starting live at 4 pm Eastern) from same day coverage on May 31 at 8 pm Eastern on CBC and CBC Gem.

As cruel as we were about last year's awards, we weren't cruel enough. Barry Hertz, who is good with words, weighed in on how terrible the presentation was to Canadian film and television. "Embarrassing and condescending": indeed.
“You hear that information for sure. And of course, everyone's allowed to have their own perspective… It’s an awards show, we're going to get poked at because that's what people do to award shows, and rightfully so. They challenge us to always be improving and doing better, which is great," Frick said in a recent interview. Frick did say this year's show will draw from the gala.
Not the mea culpa people wanted and needed. We feel bad for Mae Martin, all those who work in Canadian television and Canadian film in advance. Please be a lot better than last year. Please.
