The Canadian Screen Awards are sufficiently invisible that the idea of Golden Antlers and Beavers sound better than the actual Canadian film awards. Seth Rogen and Catherine O'Hara had fun inventing this imaginary world of Canadian film celebrations.
Golden antlers and beavers were part of the bit during the 2025 Golden Globes. The crowd got a sense that Rogen and O'Hara were teasing but without any reference points in regular life.
BAFTA and Cesar are the film awards for the United Kingdom and France, respectively. The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television shifted from the Genie Awards (film) and Gemini Awards (television) to the Canadian Screen Awards in 2013.
Despite proposals, such as Norm Macdonald suggesting Candys after John Candy, the academy has just gone with Canadian Screen Awards.
2024 Canadian Screen Awards wrapup: Technically better than 2023
Rogen and O'Hara made the Canadian film awards sound way more impressive than the actual Canadian Screen Awards. A tape delayed hour program to cover Canadian film AND Canadian television. Not even close to enough.
Gilded Gretzky award. The Beaver award for adult films since Canada didn't have a Puritanical background, according to Rogen.
There was a deeper purpose for Rogen and O'Hara presenting at the Golden Globes. They are working on The Studio for Apple TV+ starting May 21. Rogen and Evan Goldberg, his writing partner, co-created the series. That show won't win any Canadian awards.

While the jokes were extremely funny, the lack of significant coverage for Canadian film is a serious concern. The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television should personalize the ceremony to make Canadian film and television seem more accessible to Canadians.
