Welcome to the 2025 edition of National Canadian Film Day, the day to celebrate Canadian film. Lots of themed film options with in-person screenings throughout Canada and other events.
Each National Canadian Film Day has a special theme, a spotlight: the 2025 version features films containing Something To Believe In. Within the spotlight, there are 5 categories:
Within each category, there are 12 films for 60 total films. Your humble narrator has seen 7 in the first 2 categories and 8 in the last 3 categories for 38 of the 60 films. We actually enjoy that titles I don't know are included on these lists. I would be disappointed if I knew all of the titles.
In past years, I would break this down more but this spring has been rough on a personal level.
I will pick a film I have seen that others should see and a film I would love to see: C.R.A.Z.Y. (2005) from Jean-Marc Vallée and White Room (1990), Patricia Rozema's second film.
White Room was one of 23 Canadian films that was digitally restored under Telefilm Canada's new Canadian Cinema Reignited program to preserve classic Canadian films.
Look at the selections and pick one (or 2) that appeal to you.

There is also a Canadian film collection for year-round ideas. While we do aim a lot of this at the American side of the equation, English Canadians don't necessarily know as much about their films. French Canadians tend to know films and stars en Francaise but not necessarily en Anglais.

Canadians, even in the spirit of patriotism, shouldn't love a Canadian film because it's Canadian. There are great and okay and even terrible Canadian films to enjoy for all Canadians, regardless of the perception of Canadian film.
If you are buying Canadian ketchup and checking food labels, you can shop for a Canadian film.
